RESUMO

The degradation and aging of carbon felt electrodes is a main reason for the performance loss of Vanadium Redox Flow Batteries over extended operation time. In this study, the chemical mechanisms for carbon electrode degradation are investigated and distinct differences in the degradation mechanisms on positive and negative electrodes have been revealed. A combination of surface analysis techniques such as X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy (XPS), Raman spectroscopy, and Electrochemical Impedance Spectroscopy (EIS) was applied for this purpose. In addition to understanding the chemical and physical alterations of the aged electrodes, a thermal method for reactivating aged electrodes was developed. The reactivation process was successfully applied on artificially aged electrodes as well as on electrodes from a real-world industrial vanadium redox flow battery system. The aforementioned analysis methods provided insight and understanding into the chemical mechanisms of the reactivation procedure. By applying the reactivation method, the lifetime of vanadium redox flow batteries can be significantly extended.

RESUMO

We report that the direct conjugation of metal halide perovskite nanocrystals on rGO sheets can provide high performance and stable electrodes for Zn-ion capacitors. It is the first time that metal halide nanocrystals have been used to enhance the energy storage of 2D materials in capacitors by introducing an additional pseudocapacitance mechanism. In particular, we present a simple, rapid and room temperature laser-induced method to anchor CsPbBr3 nanocrystals on rGO sheets without affecting the initial morphology and crystal structure of the two components. The flexible and high surface area of the rGO sheets enables the conjugation of individual metal halide perovskite nanocrystals, giving rise to new synergetic functionalities. As a result, the specific capacitance of the perovskite-rGO conjugated electrodes can be enhanced by 178- and 152-times compared to those of the plain rGO and perovskite electrodes respectively.

RESUMO

Despite the high potential impact of aqueous battery systems, fundamental characteristics such as cost, safety, and stability make them less feasible for large-scale energy storage systems. One of the main barriers encountered in the commercialization of aqueous batteries is the development of large-scale electrodes with high reversibility, high rate capability, and extended cycle stability at low operational and maintenance costs. To overcome some of these issues, the current research work is focused on a new class of material based on phenethylammonium bismuth iodide on fluorine doped SnO2-precoated glass substrate via aerosol-assisted chemical vapor deposition, a technology that is industrially competitive. The anode materials were electrochemically investigated in Zn2+ aqueous electrolytes as a proof of concept, which presented a specific capacity of 220 mAh g-1 at 0.4 A g-1 with excellent stability after 50 scans and capacity retention of almost 100%.

RESUMO

This paper describes the evaluation of a service-oriented prototype implementation. The prototype development aims to exploit the use of service-oriented concepts for achieving healthcare interoperability while it also attempts to move towards a virtual patient record paradigm. The proposed evaluation strategy investigates the adaptation of the DeLone and McLean model of information systems success with respect to service-oriented implementations. Specific service-oriented and virtual patient record characteristics were empirically encapsulated in the DeLone and McLean model and respective evaluation measures were produced. The proposed theoretical framework was utilized for conducting an empirical study amongst sixty two participants in order to observe their perceptions with respect to the hypothetical adoption of the prototype framework. The data gathered was analyzed using partial least squares. The generated results highlighted the importance of information quality whereas system quality did not prove to be a strong significant predictor in the overall model.
